How to Upholster a Swivel Chair?

Step 1: Dismantle your swivel chair

Both the backrest and seat of the swivel chair are probably screwed to the main frame, take a look at your swivel chair and dismantle it. In the picture, there were two screws holding the backrest in place and four screws holding the seat in place.

Once you have unscrewed the backrest and seat, you must remove the padded part of the frame. With this chair it was simply a case of removing the padded part with a flat-head screwdriver (used as a lever).

Step 2: Cut your chosen fabric to size

With the padded back and seat as a guide, cut out your new baric, making sure there is enough fabric to pull the sides and staple to the back of each padded piece. It would allow at least four or five inches all year round.

Step 3: Staple your fabric in place

Using a staple gun, staple your new fabric to the bottom of the quilted pieces, starting at the center of all four sides and pulling the soft, tight fabric together before stapling in place. Point that end and place the sanded end into the other 5-way connector. The assembly should rotate smoothly. Insert a screw through the upper crosshead connector and into the vertical position.

Step 5: Install a seat

Place the seat on top of the assembly so that the arms form an «X» to sit on. Attach the arms to the seat bracket using the appropriate tools for the seat design. If this method is not stable for your particular seat, install a square piece of plywood on the arms and then attach the seat of the chair to the plywood.
