WHAT A BACHELOR DEGREE MEANS ?

Within this context, each degree program aims to develop, along with more program-specific professional skills, several basic qualities.  These expected postgraduate qualities shape the more detailed educational objectives and learning outcomes that are specified for each course and subject.

Graduates develop an understanding of a vast body of knowledge and through this can apply analytical techniques and problem-solving skills. The graduate is then qualified to evaluate evidence, arguments and assumptions. They also arrive at sound judgments and communicate them effectively.

Bachelor’s Degrees are Awarded to Aapplicants Who Demonstrate:

  • A systematic understanding of the key aspects of their field of study, including the acquisition of coherent and detailed knowledge, at least some of which is at the forefront of or informed by the defined aspects of a discipline.
  • The ability to deploy precisely established analytical and research techniques within a discipline.

Conceptual Understanding that Enables the Student:

  • Devise and sustain arguments, and solve problems, using ideas and techniques, some of which are at the forefront of a discipline.
  • Describe and comment on particular aspects of current research, or an equivalent advanced scholarship, in the discipline.
  • An appreciation of the uncertainty, ambiguity, and limits of knowledge
  • The ability to manage their own learning and make use of academic and primary source reviews (e.g., peer-reviewed research articles and original appropriate to the discipline).

Generally, Bachelor Graduates are able to:

  • Apply methods and techniques to review, consolidate, expand and apply knowledge to initiate and consolidate projects.

  • They will also have transferable and much-needed qualities and skills for employment.
  • They practice personal initiative and responsibility, decision-making in complex and unpredictable contexts, and the ability to learn to undertake appropriate further training of a professional nature.
