FREE MOUNTAIN COURSE

The joy of the beauty of nature, a successful ascent, a perfect sunset, a tasty dinner in a mountain cabin, new friendships or challenges made with pride: this joy is very special and can only be experienced in the mountains.

Trips such as mountain hiking and naturalistic activities that are less technical are open to everyone and help us to explore new places and find new challenges, as well as to connect with nature. Trips that are more technical like climbing (mountaineering) often have prerequisites to ensure that everyone is safe and has the skills necessary to successfully participate in the activity.

Many mountaineering institutions and schools have developed mountaineering programs and training. These mountain courses are designed to provide the student with the knowledge and skills necessary to function in the mountains. Some of these courses are free of charge.

A Free Mountain Course will lead you through a path full of knowledge in the area of mountaineering, as well as provide you with concepts and instructions of equipment and safety measures to perform any outdoor activity in the mountain. If you want to develop the experience and skills to be self-sufficient in the mountains, this is the ideal course for you!

What are the Mountain Courses ?

The Mountain Course sets the standard for mountaineering and travel skills instruction programs. It offers all the skills necessary for general mountaineering. These courses prepare the student for the mountains by teaching rope handling and rock climbing skills. During this course the student will develop rope handling skills related to rock, snow, and ice climbing.

The Mountain Course includes map reading and simple navigation techniques (using a map, compass, and altimeter), recognition of natural features, distance measurement, timing of walks, techniques and methodology of mountaineering and rescue activities.

In this course the student will learn to recognize the dangers of the mountains and the methods to avoid or minimize them. They will learn good travel practices and how and where to camp, keeping in mind that the environmental impact should be minimal.

In a Mountain Course different training methods can be used such as: lectures, introduction, audio-visual presentation, demonstration, practice, field work, reports and written and practical exams
