GENESIS AND CREATION

The genesis story is also called the creation story because in that section of the bible we are described as God created us. Start with: In the beginning there was no land, no sky, no sea, no animals.

The Seven Days

And then God spoke in the darkness, “Let there be light”, and immediately there was light, dispersing the darkness and showing the infinite space. “That’s good,” said God. “From now on, when it’s dark, it’s ‘night,’ and when it’s light, it’s ‘day’.

Evening came and night passed, and then the light came again. That was the first day. On the second day, God made the earth and carefully hung a vast blue sky over it. He stood back and admired his creation. “That’s good too,” God said and the second day was over.

Next morning, God looked around and thought, “The earth needs to be a little more organized. So he put all the water in one place and all the dry land in another. When that was over, God made plants to cover the earth. Dandelions and daffodils appeared. All kinds of trees and grasses began to grow. “It looks great,” God said, and that was the end of the third day.

On the fourth day, God looked around and thought, “The daylight still needs a little more work and the night is too dark. So he had the sun light up the sky during the day and the moon and stars to add a little brightness to the night. He hung them in the sky and took a step back to look at his work. “This is going very well,” God said.

The next day, God turned his attention to the water he had collected from the oceans. “I want these waters to be full of life! As soon as he said it, it was like this. In a short time, there were millions of small fish darting through the shallow water and huge fish swimming in the ocean.

God also made birds. He sent them flying through the air. “Ahh, that’s good!” God said. He dropped the sunset into the water and the sky darkened and that was the end of the fifth day.

On the sixth day, God added creatures to the earth. He made lions, tigers, and bears. He made rabbits, sheep, and cows. He added everything from ants to zebras to the earth. But he still felt that something was missing. Then God added mankind to enjoy and care for all that he had created. God looked around and was happy with everything he had made.

After six days, the whole universe was complete. On the seventh day, God had a good rest and enjoyed looking at everything he had made.

Controversy about The Genesis and The Creation

Nearly 150 years after Charles Darwin published his groundbreaking work On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, Americans are still struggling with evolution.

If anything, the controversy has grown in both size and intensity. In the last decade, debates about how evolution should be taught in schools have been heard in school boards, city halls, and legislatures in more than half the states.

For much of the 20th century, opponents of evolution tried to eliminate the teaching of Darwin’s theory from the public school science curriculum or urged science teachers to teach a version of the creation story found in the biblical book of Genesis.

There is another controversy with some details that are discordant between chapter one of the genesis and chapter two, there are different opinions about these contradictions, there are people who doubt that it is the same editor, or that in the second chapter another approach was used.

Two Creation Stories in The Genesis

Most people don’t realize it, but there are two different and contradictory stories of the Creation in Genesis, the first book of the Bible. The first story goes from Genesis 1:1 to Genesis 2:3; the second story begins in Genesis 2:4 and runs to the end of the chapter in Genesis 2:25.

In the first story, the Creation takes six days and man (and woman) are created at the end after all the plants and animals are created. In the second story, the Creation takes one day, first the man is created, then all the plants and animals are created, and finally the woman is created. It would be great, to make a deep study of these two chapters and make your personal opinion of the situation.
