You will learn basic lighting design concepts to develop awareness of the types of light sources and luminaires available; this includes both modern and historically used sources and can still be found today. During the course, you will work with the interaction between the basic physical elements of light, lighting technologies, digital media, context, human factors and design methods.
Generally in a Lighting Course, the student will be required to complete a project. Students can work on a lighting project of their choice to apply their learning to a lighting scenario. The project is designed to give students the opportunity to turn the theory of the course into practice and is useful for students with little experience in designing a lighting installation to work on the practical aspects of the course.
Students are required to write and submit a professional report consisting of the design methods, equipment, luminaires, calculations and all data used to carry out the design project (photometric data in particular).
