Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.
If we wanted to make an interpretation of this quote we could say that the part that says Listen, Israel, are the words of Moses, which make the people pay attention to what he was about to say about this great and transcendental article, the unity of God, to avoid them to enter into polytheism and idolatry.
The Lord our God is one Lord; whose doctrine is that the Lord, who was the God of the Covenant and the Father of His people Israel, is one Lord only.
He is Jehovah, the being of beings, a self-existent, eternal, and unchangeable being; and he is but one in nature and essence; this arises from the perfection of his nature, his eternity, omnipotence, omnipresence, infinity, goodness, self-sufficiency, and perfection.
For there cannot be but one eternal, one omnipotent, one omnipresent, one infinite, one who is originally and of himself good; one and all Being sufficient and perfect. The mind of God is absolutely undivided. In practical application, this means that His sovereignty can never be separated from His love; His grace cannot be separated from His omniscience; His judgment cannot be separated from either His mercy or His wrath.
God is absolutely constant because His faithful providence cannot be separated from any other of His attributes. God is complete and whole. Under any circumstances, He is never confused or unsure of what to do. He always goes in the same direction, which is to complete His purpose.
It is absolutely impossible for Him to do anything that is not wise and loving at the same time.
It is He who tells us how to live and how to be like Him. What God has has amazing ramifications for us because we are so different, and He wants us to be like Him, to be one with Him, to be complete, to be whole, to be undivided like Him.
There are problems here because to be converted in this way requires a certain amount of cooperation on our part. In comparison with God, our mind is everywhere and therefore we are easily distracted from our focus
