A bench sander is a sanding machine used to shape and finish wood and other materials. It consists of an electric motor that turns a pair of drums on which a continuous loop of sandpaper is mounted. Bench sanders can be portable and move over the material, or stationary (fixed), where the material moves to the sanding belt.

How to Use a Bench Sander ?

Sand the board by moving the sander back and forth, in the same direction as the grain. At the end of each sanding line, move more than half the width of the board to begin the next line. Each sanding pass must match the previous pass. There is no need to lean on the sander. Just let the weight of the machine do the work.

Bench sanders are not used as often in fine woodworking. Most of the time, when building a piece of furniture or similar project, other tools are used to design a part of the project in a fairly precise way. The strength of a belt sander is to quickly remove considerable amounts of material from the surface of a piece of wood.

That said, there is still a place for a bench sander in every woodworking shop. You may not need to use it often. For example, a bench sander is ideal for forming curved shapes in small pieces of material by holding the sander upside down and using it as a stationary sander.

How to Make a Home Bank Sander ?

The bench sander is a sanding machine used in the grinding and finishing of wood and other materials. Basically, the bench sander consists of an electric motor that turns a pair of cylindrical drums on which a continuous loop of sandpaper belt is mounted. But in this bench sander, I used a drilling machine instead of an electric motor.
The first step is to cut the plywood sheet to make a base for the sanding machine and also other parts of the belt and disc sanding machine. The base of the plywood sheet is about 22″*13″ in size.
After that, cut the support column 18″ long and the support block and other pieces of wood blocks.
The next step, connect the support column and support block to the base plate of the sanding machine using screws. The bearing is also mounted on the support block to facilitate rotation of the sanding belt.
Now connect the 8″ long wood block on the top side of the sanding machine with support column and create an angular momentum around its center axis. This block is used to make it easier to attach and remove the sanding belt.
The spring is attached to the top block and support column to increase the tension on the belt. Therefore, the belt can remain stable and tight in the correct position.
The bearings are first installed in the rollers provided with the hole, and then these rollers, one with support block and one with top block, are fixed. These rollers are connected by means of bolts and nuts. The distance between the two rollers is 11 «.
Make sure that the rollers turn without any vibration.
The base support for the drill is made of plywood. For sanding discs, it is necessary to hold the drill at a certain height for the bench sander to work properly.
Place the cut plywood pieces and make a drill stand. The support base is 9″ long, 7″ wide and 4″ high. After that, place this support base on the base plate with screws.
Fasten the drill into this support base by using clamping blocks, bolts and nuts. And also tighten the main bolt of the bench sander into the chuck using a chuck wrench.
A work support is necessary for the correct operation of the bench sander. The working stand is made of plywood.
Place the cut pieces of plywood and make a working stand for both the bench sander and the disc sander. For the work stand for the disc sander, the door (hinges) is secured with a work stand to facilitate the removal of the sanding disc. After that, place the work supports on the base plate.
Also place the iron plate for the belt holder with support blocks using screws for proper work on the bench sander.
Place the sanding belt on the rollers in the correct position and also place the sanding disc on the end of the threaded bolt.
